I've read a lot about how to combine two antennas into one signal to increase the number and quality of over-the-air channels being received by one of our troubled HDTVs. For those who have tried and failed, and for those who are striving, it is important to understand that the antennas must be identical and their cable lengths into the splitter/combiner must also be equal to avoid phase mismatch of the same incoming antennas to avoid signals. Simply put, you're trying to create synergy, where two or more weaker signals combine to create a stronger signal, rather than canceling each other out. At first I was disappointed because with two combined antennas I had fewer channels than with one, which basically went from 25 channels to around 10. I found that after my wife brought the third small flexible antenna close by and explained that it helped with some transmitters that I accidentally connected the wrong antennas. When I corrected this error, the 25 channels we previously had jumped to 52, and there was a noticeable improvement in picture quality on some as well. All splitters are not necessarily combiners. My first attempt at using a conventional splitter lying around gave far worse results than a single antenna, and this is where further reading helped me spot this particular splitter, labeled as sending a signal in both directions. We don't have expensive antennas either. I read that this is not necessary and bought two models of this particular model found on Amazon on ebay: https://www.amazon.com/ViewTV-Version-Digital-Antenna-Amplified/dp/B0158SZZOY/ ref= sr_1_5? ie =UTF8&qid=1546101076&sr=8-5&keywords=2018+Indoor+Amplified+HDTV+TV+HD+Antenna+50+Miles+Digital The antennas are currently mounted about 5ft apart perpendicular to each other to reduce the chance of double signal interference and to capture other channels that are better seen from a different location. We've yet to experiment with the location and plan the same modification for other TVs, and we may even try adding a third antenna to the same TV to see if we can improve performance even further. Remember that the antennas are the same, the cable from both is the same length, the right two-way splitter like this one, and as much quality cable as you need to connect the splitter to the TV. Try to avoid extra connections between the splitter and the TV.
