Review on Brady BMP21-PLUS Handheld Label Printer: Rubber Bumpers, Multi-Line Print, 6-40pt Font by Anthony Daniels

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It's so good that a few flaws really stand out. Great labels and clunky UI, still worth buying.

Pros:* The labels themselves are very, very good. The line includes many material and color options, and they don't curl.* A variety of convenient formats, including wrap-around cable labels, set it apart from the competition.* The device feels solid and well-made, and the mechanics feel solid on. * The display backlight is great, and while the keyboard itself doesn't have a backlight, it can be used in dark environments. * Unlike Brother P-Touch devices, there is no wasted 2" of tape at each end of each label by default. It was just offensive and I'm glad Brady avoided it. Trailing margins are fine.* The time/date stamp option is rarely mentioned, but makes it easier to label items. Cons:* Cannot print more than 4 lines on a 3/4 inch label, leaving quite a bit of white space around the edges. If you're trying to pack a lot of information, forget it. * ABC keyboard requires DIAF. This is sooo annoying. I'd love to stick an old Blackberry on the face of this thing and have it QWERTZ. And by the way, the best screen. (It's 2017 and we don't have WYSIWYG? Seriously?) * The label cutter's levers are on the bottom, so if you're using it while sitting on a table, you'll have to lift it up for each cut. The cordless option is bloody expensive and the power supply uncomfortably bulky, but shoving 6x NiMH AA's into my charger is a nuisance (although still better than throwing away alkaline batteries. I hope no one uses disposable batteries in them). Charging someone's USB stick?* The batteries left in the device will be dead after a few weeks, even when the device is turned off. e all the time. Remove them immediately after you're done creating your labels!* The date stamp doesn't support ISO 8601, the only date format I care about. there is room to grow. I hope they will release an updated version soon even if it would be out of date on my current computer as it is very cumbersome to use. Despite the clumsiness, I use it often and I like the result.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
