I bought a solar powered wireless Tymate TPMS tire pressure monitoring system for my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 after driving on a slow flatbed while camping last summer. We almost got stuck on the track because we only found the leak away from any services. We pumped up the tire, but it leaked almost as fast as the pump filled the air. We were lucky to get into town before it got any worse. Had we had a TPMS system, we could have identified the problem earlier and avoided a risky situation. We have just returned from a 3000 mile trip after installing this TPMS and have no complaints. While we didn't experience any leaks or breakdowns, the system gave us peace of mind in a variety of driving conditions, including snow, ice and off-road driving. The panel is ideally dimensioned, does not dazzle due to a display that is too bright, all important information is displayed continuously. While I haven't attempted to compare the accuracy to a calibrated source, the pressure on all 4 wheels was tracked well and I was impressed with the consistency of the temperature and pressure readings. While one bike was consistently a few degrees warmer than the other 3, they all varied as expected based on weather and road conditions. All in all it was very interesting to see how the readings changed during the ride and it was nice to know that the pressure sensors were working well. Early on I set the high pressure alarm too low because our trip started with temperatures in the mid 20's. At high altitudes, when the temperature reached 50 degrees, the tire pressure exceeded 70psi, so the alarm went off and I had to increase the limit to 75psi. After that everything went fine. I now intend to order the same TPMS system for our 2003 Outback and would highly recommend it to other owners of older cars without a TPMS system.
