This processor is definitely an upgrade from the quad-core i7-4770 (not K) I had before! I'm glad to see that the i5 now has Hyper-Threading thanks to AMD. But I may have gotten the 10400's worst performance as my Cinebench R20 and R15 scores are noticeably lower than the benchmarks you might see online (both single-core and multi-core and I have all my drivers/bios installed and up to date). Despite this, I am very happy with this purchase as this processor is no fool. It is currently paired with the Asus Prime B460-Plus and the Zotac GTX 1070. Note that there are two versions of the i5-10400. One is G1 Stepping (pure 6-core chip and no STIM) and the other is Q0 Stepping (10-core chip with 4 cores disabled, uses a newer thermal interface and shares a similar heatspreader as more expensive unlocked SKUs). However, they should work very similarly. Update 09/09/20: Switched to a previous generation platform and am currently using the i9-9900K. Gen 10 isn't that bad, but with Gen 11 Rocket Lake, it's better to wait. It is rumored to use the 14nm Willow Cove process. or just wait for Zen 3. Now I'm waiting to upgrade my 1070 to the new RTX 3080 when it's available at my local Best Buy store.
