[Updated July 2021] DBPower contacted me after reading my review. They talked about each of my points from below. Originally I would have given this projector 3.5 stars (rounded down), but I've now upped my rating to 4 because customer service contacted me directly! I'm glad I could give 4 stars because I want to reiterate that this projector is really good considering the price and the fact that it supports 1080p resolution! For comparison, my first projector was 800 x 600 and cost $900, the second was 1280 x 800 and cost $700. This projector will definitely be a great first projector for anyone interested in this technology. I probably would have kept it for the extra pixels, but other than that it didn't outperform my current projector. Fan noise was the biggest issue for me - it's not terrible by any means, but it's not as quiet as my Casio (both in pitch and in decibels). All DBPower has to do is use a different fan with 1st lower tone (most important) and 2nd lower decibels. In other comparisons, the lumens seemed about the same. The lack of image controls wasn't a hindrance, but it would have been nice to have one. Obviously I missed the zoom feature so I don't know if it's OPTICAL or DIGITAL. Finally, DBPower mentioned that they should release another model with more lumens, an improved remote control, and more volume in the next few months. I look forward to seeing him at Revain. [Original: June 2021] I would like to replace my current Casio XJ-A240 (1280x800, 2500 ANSI Lumens) but this DBPower is not the only one. that's an amazing amount of projector for under $200! The case was really nice and well made. Overall, however, it didn't beat my 9-year-old Casio as a home replacement. I think it will suffice for outdoor use, but more actual lumens and a quieter fan are needed. a few quick notes on key differences: * BRIGHTNESS: my Casio is 2500 lumens, this one is 8000, but the DBPower is a bit brighter. and it may be set to cooler tones than my current warm tone settings. I also read a review that said these new projectors may be using a different method of calculating lumens (i.e. reporting a higher number). I'd believe it* KEYSTONE/FOCUS: Interesting keystone correction - not digital at all (which is probably a good thing!). It's like tilting a real LCD panel in a car. So if rotated too much, the top/bottom of the image will start to blur (compared to the horizontal center). So I would suggest "focusing" with Keystone first so the whole image is equally sharp, and then use the focus adjustment to set the final focus. (Keystone and focus are right next to each other on the machine)* MENU/PICTURE: The menu has very few settings and is missing what I would call some of the basics like sharpness, contrast etc. it has red, green and blue. The picture is pretty good but lacks the depth/color gamut of my Casio. the resolution itself was higher, but the quality looked like the image had been oversharpened in Photoshop.* FAN NOISE: The fan noise was louder than my Casio. My Casio fan has a much lower tone while the DBPower has a higher tone making masking difficult. That was probably the biggest hurdle for me. I've included some pictures of DBPower and my Casio.
