175/70R13. Acquired as a direct replacement for Gislaved, whose retirement had been long overdue. Starting at 20 kilometers per hour, a rumbling can be heard (not the noise of spikes, but a rumble), and it gets louder as the vehicle speeds up. It was immediately apparent that this type of rubber is significantly more noisy than other types. When traveling at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, the rumble is comparable to that of a bomber from the Second World War. Turn on a DVD about the Great Patriotic War, and seek out the scene in which the bombers are in flight - you'll hear just such a rumbling from this rubber.) Quieter creeps closer to 120 kilometers per hour. My own experiences with Amtel and Gislaved spikes allow me to compare them to this one; but, in comparison, the other two are completely silent. I had hoped that by the conclusion of the season, the tires would become more broken in and that the noise would diminish, but none of those things happened. Before making a purchase, I read and heard a lot of excellent reviews about this model; however, in a bigger size, there may be an issue with the R13. Rubber is a durable material that performs admirably on both dry and wet pavement, but it shines brightest when the temperature is high. It is considerably slowed down by the ice. During those few days this winter when it actually seemed like winter, I came to the realization that driving in the snow had become a very uncertain experience. Even though the majority of the spikes and worn tread had been removed, Gislaved maintained a more firm hold on the road. I was able to change my shoes for the summer in June thanks to the quarantine, and I was astonished to see that all of the spikes were still in place. Considering that the winter was warm, and that winter tires were not particularly intended to be used in the summer, there were multiple instances of emergency braking and sliding. Even though it has only around 5000 miles on it, it is still too soon to gauge the vehicle's reliability. The rumble, in my opinion, nullifies all of the little benefits that this rubber offers. Even if you have a good Shumkov, you shouldn't put all of your eggs in one basket and hope that it would save you fully. Even though the pricing isn't outrageous and we didn't have particularly high hopes for the rubber, it fell short of our anticipations in every way.
