The insides were dirty so definitely wash before use (you should anyway but I was surprised at how dirty they are). The copper on the outside is perfect and goes perfectly with my kitchen decor. I was happy to find them in four sizes and after washing they were immediately filled and ready to use. Make sure they are completely dry on the outside when you wash them and if they get moisture in the kitchen, dry them out. , otherwise they will patinate (if you don't like the way some people look, which doesn't matter).
