Review on ๐Ÿ„ Coway Airmega AP-1512HHS: App-Enabled Smart Air Purifier with True HEPA & Amazon Alexa Compatibility by John Naidu

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Smart features are not just a gimmick!

Let's start with the bad: The setup is not very fun. The IOCare application is buggy and you have to run it multiple times before it works. You also need a 2.4 GHz WiFi network at home (the device does not support 5 GHz). But if you have it and have a bit of stamina, you can make it work. I believe in you. Just keep trying. hp Don't sign up for IOCare with Google, use your email address and create a password instead. Now for the good: This is by every measure the air purifier that the AP-1512HH was, the one that has consistently been Wirecutter's top pick. Minus the air ionizer (which was a gimmick anyway) which allowed Coway to advertise this model as 100% ozone free. Plus a proper activated carbon honeycomb filter like the Winix on the 5500-2. This allows for better odor evacuation and is washable so there is no need to replace it. HEPA filters for HH fit this model, which means changing filters is just as cheap in the long run (a key selling point for Winix). Now to the intellectual: when he works, he is very good. Seriously, I wasn't expecting smart features to be anything more than a gimmick, but they're actually pretty cool. For starters, you can turn it on or off and change the fan speed using Google Assistant or Alexa. It works surprisingly well and the commands are very simple ("Alexa, change the fan speed to 2"). My favorite smart feature is alerts: the IOCare app sends you poor air quality push notifications when Coway detects high levels of particulate matter. I often get these alerts when I'm cooking on the bottom of the stove and there's smoke, so this definitely works. I love how the app lets you view your current indoor air quality and compare it to the outside air (AQI from your local weather station). You can also view indoor air quality as a graph over time. Finally, the app will send you notifications when the pre-filter needs cleaning or the HEPA filter needs replacing. As for the air purifier itself, no complaints, it works great, about the same as the 5500-2 I also own. In automatic mode it is very quiet. And it's more stylish than the Winix, so it won't stand out in your decor. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an automatic sleep mode when it gets dark like the Winix (a feature I really like), but it does have a button to turn off the light so it doesn't bother you in the dark (I keep it in my phone). bedroom and it's barely noticeable). You can also set a schedule through the app to automatically turn off the lights at night and reduce the fan speed to a minimum when you sleep. I haven't tried it personally so I don't know how reliable it is, I just know that it is. All in all, a worthy successor to the HH and well worth the extra $50 if you set it up right.
