We needed a good, reliable device to give presentations and clients to allow their screens to be shared in our conference room. First, a local supplier gave us a BARCO NV to test - although BARCO is a great device, its price was quite high. We did some research and found this for almost 1/6 the price. Set up was easy - literally plug the main unit into the power supply and the TV and key into our unit. It's a bit of adapter hell since we work with MS Surface and Ultrabooks that don't have HDMI ports - we had to buy different adapters (Displayport to HDMI, mini-HDMI to HDMI) to make them work. Where BARCO connects via USB so it is powered and only needs one point of contact - ARIES needs both a display (HDMI) and a USB port (for power) so it's a bit bulkier - with adapters it almost is like a long daisy chain parts. But the performance was great - it had less jitter and stuttering than the BARCO, no additional downloads of apps or other software, and it connected faster. To be fair, the BARCO has other features too - multiple ports etc - and it's a no-fuss, single-function device. But it does exactly what we needed - we've tried it with the Dell Latitude, iPad Pro, MS Surface Pro, and Dell XPS. Some cons: After about 45 minutes of streaming, it got very hot - hot to the breaking point. in a place where you wouldn't want to hold it in your hand, which, as you'd expect, has a significant impact on battery consumption. We had a 'pause' or went black screen due to connectivity - we assume quieter channels aren't being scanned for streaming. Overall, we recommend it as an easy-to-use streaming device.
