I bought the 16GB version of the NUC even though Run said I only need 8; If I ever want to switch to Windows, I'll leave my options open for the future. In any case, it was installed with an updated bios and Windows 10 Pro, which I licensed, so all I had to do was install ROCK and the FFMPEG file, a codec file missing from the Rock bundle. While this sounds complicated, it's a lot easier than you think. The file for AMD works fine if you can't find Intel. Apart from the main unit, this is the only thing I need additionally. Oh yes, I am referring to the 1TB Samsun T7 - the defect standard for a fast external uptime experience. Someone says to me with 3 pressure. Just got my 4th. This is another review. Why? Anyone who knows Roon is already halfway there. I used to run the kernel on my Macbook i5 16 and it always took me a while to find the kernel, even on the same machine it was running and booting on. By taking the finished NUC and putting it under the TV along with my audio cables, ROCK should avoid the hassle of dusting maybe every two years. Now Roon will open in about a second. And my Mac can do other things. I connected an iFi iDSD BlackLabel DAC to my MAC which is now just an audio transport. I don't know what algorithm Roon uses, but the sound is better than Tidal Masters or Hi-Res Quobuz straight through the DAC. Also, I can work with multiple endpoints. Of course I wouldn't, but I could. I love this thing; It's nice to put it together and get it working. Of course, I could pay double for the Roon i3 Nucleus, but if you're happy with the minimal tweaks, this is very cool tech for audiophiles and music lovers.
