Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Kreg KHI-PULL Cabinet Hardware Jig by Tool Company by Erik Snyder

Good idea, but missed in many ways.

Disappointing. I bought this to drill hardware holes in some IKEA cabinets. While I'm usually very satisfied with Kreg products, I'm not for a number of reasons. First, you need two sizes, not one, to line up a cabinet hardware hole. You typically mark on one side as well as the top or bottom of a door or drawer. Because this jig only has a stop for one of the two axes, you still need to mark a line along the other axis to align the tool correctly. If the conductor had stops on both axes, once installed, it would be possible to simply clamp and repeat all day without delay. This brings me to the rear depth stop. The stopper works by moving up and down the two slots and tightening the black knobs. There are no brackets or stops along the rail, so you must align the depth gauge very carefully on each side to ensure it is parallel to the mounting holes. Not a critical omission, but certainly helpful. I suspect the detents will cause problems if you try to adjust the depth in increments other than 1/8 inch. Note what is not visible after the work is complete, and then set the jig to that point at the desired depth. But to do that with this jig, the depth control stop behind the jig would have to have a center mark for that alignment, which it doesn't. Instead, you should mark the center of the front of the box well below where your gear will be attached to leave a mark. To solve this problem I found the center of the stop on the back, carefully marked it with a small dot and started working on it. Craig, if you're listening, put a small V-shaped notch in the center of the depth gauge so you can find the center from that spot. Next, the device is quite slippery. It has to be held VERY STRONG when clamping or it's bound to slip a millimeter or two. This was probably the most frustrating part of the job and I had to reinstall the jig several times to make sure it was properly aligned. Also if you are installing hardware on a shaker door where the panel is recessed under the rails. and rods hover hole guides above the surface without making intimate contact with the material being drilled. This was not fatal, but required careful work to keep the jig from deviating while the holes were being drilled. If the attachment point is more than 5 inches from the edge of the material, you're out of luck and can't use this mount. Instead, you have to find the drill points the old-fashioned way with a T-square, tape measure, center punch, etc. On the plus side, it's well constructed and the pilot holes keep the bit perfectly perpendicular to the material when drilling. . It is very easy to install stops in the middle of the drawers. This article from EasyJig seems to solve many of the problems I had for just a few bucks more: https://www.amazon.com/Cabinet-Pulls-Handles-Template/dp/B06XXM58SW/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid =1509997150&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=drawer+pull+device+es&psc=1.
