I have completely switched to steam except for two rooms where I have laminate. I love it. It cleans better and more thoroughly than any other mop. I have a Sanitaire steam mop that sells around the same price, a 'better' brand, but this one works just as well (except the body heats up everywhere except the handle itself). The Sanitaire handle, or at least anything I touch, does NOT get hot - this has never been a problem. It heats up very quickly and can be used as long as there is water in the tank. And my kitchen floor gets very dirty. My husband is a great cook but after he cooks the floor is a mess. I have complained but what can you do? I mean, that's it after so many years. So now I use a steam mop after sweeping. It's a lot easier than a regular mop. I need to sweep well, but the steam stays dry on stains like tomato sauce or wine. We have soft caulk vinyl in our kitchen and it gets very dirty even after a few days (I suppose I can buy caulk, I just found out). However, the vapor makes it really clean. Sometimes I have to slowly repeat the strokes over certain areas several times, but it all comes out very clean. This works with both wood and other tiles. Despite all manufacturer information (mops), use on laminate floors is NOT recommended. I wish it was because it would make things easier, but I've seen laminate ruined by steam and I won't risk it. I love this mop. I have not used it for anything other than floors but it is a great item. I've been using steam mops for over a year and haven't even taken out my sponge mop since, although I saved my laminating mop.
