This is a good alternative to paper plates if you don't mind spending the extra money. Although they are strong and will hold heavier objects, they start to break when they get wet. The plate could hold a 1 1/2 pound steak until I let the steak rest a few minutes and when I was ready to cut the steak the plate didn't seem strong enough to cut it, so I switched to a real plate. I bought plates for steaks and ribs as paper plates cannot support the weight of those items. They are great for burgers, hot dogs or sandwiches, but they are too expensive for me.
