Review on πŸ“Έ Sigma DP-1 Merrill Digital Camera: 46MP FOVEON X3 Sensor & 19mm f/2.8 Lens by Patrick Reynolds

Simply put - BEST IQ!

Anyone who has dealt with small cameras with large sensors knows that they all have their advantages and disadvantages. I was only interested in the best IQ at base ISO. That's it . Ergonomics, size, autofocus speed, buffer clearing, LCD daylight readability. IQ, IQ, IQ - tones, natural colors, subtle gradations, excellent monochrome conversion etc.! My goal is to always have a camera with me for fine art, stock photography and many other personal photo shoots. I already have a Sony Experia Z phone with a camera that's great for taking quick snaps and videos that I can send to friends and family or post to Facebook. For my professional weddings, portraits, events and most other paid work I use my Sony A700 with a bright lens, vertical grip and professional flash. I first bought the Ricoh GR and like previous models I liked its ergonomics, size and user interface. Even the IQ compared to previous models is fantastic given the 16.2MP APS-C sized sensor. But I quickly realized that I have redundancy in my gear - my phone, GR and A700 are all cameras with Bayer sensors. Then I saw that Revain has a $699 Merrill DP1 through Beach Camera. While I still had the GR, I only had to order the DP1M to see how the new 15x3MP sensor fared (I've had other older DP 5x3MP models before, but the interpolation required to increase the file size , at least for me, negated the benefits of the sharpness and subtlety of the Foveon). Enough of my excuses. Sigma DP1 Merrill lives up to expectations. There's nothing quite like it on the market unless you've got over $10,000 in digital medium format.

In the right conditions (ISO=100-200 and on a bright day), the photos are SUPERB!!!. Love it.
