Review on Honeywell Ademco 958: Advanced Overhead Door Contacts for Enhanced Security by Tim Hollins
You don't need ferrous metal between the contacts
The mounting plate is easy to modify if you have aluminum cutting tools. I have adapted these contacts for overhead drum/roller doors with a thick rubber bump where the door meets the ground. They were easy to connect and worked great for my application. It all depends on your ability to adapt this element to your application or situation.
