I am not using it for its intended purpose.
I use these tools to quickly and easily unclog drains without touching them. Works great! Break off the little handle that locks the hook, drop the hook down the tub/shower drain, flip it around and see what the heck comes up! We've also used some of these to scoop out walnut chunks when cracking black walnuts. I have no idea what these things are actually for, but they come in handy for a lot of things!
