hard drives for archiving purposes. I don't use the clone option for this because I'm really tired of relying on a button to clone disk properly. It also depends on the type of information on the disk being cloned. I like the metal body, it gives a nice goofy feel to the build quality of this docking station. There is a black button on the front that needs to be pressed to start the cloning process. When you use this function, pay attention to which slot you insert the drive to be cloned and the hard drive to which you want to clone the information to be cloned. There is no mark on the case to indicate which is the source disk and which is the destination disk. The only indicators on the dock are the 7 LEDs and "A" and "B" indicating the slots. One LED indicates power, drive A, drive B and four clone LEDs indicate 25%/50%/75%/100%. On the back you will find the power switch, the power plug and the USB plug. The only two issues I had with this product was that when connected to a USB hub, it sometimes disconnected all other devices connected to the hub. when trying to access drives attached to this dock. Another problem I had was that sometimes my computer wouldn't restart while it was plugged in. The problems I've had with it have never been consistent, so I can troubleshoot and figure out why it was causing problems. The hard drive goes into hibernation/sleep mode if it has not been used for a certain period of time. If you try to access it while it is in sleep mode, it will take a few seconds before you can access it again. Dock connector orientation is slightly misaligned and not flush. When inserting a hard drive, you must insert it at the correct angle so that it is properly seated and upright. You can't just mindlessly plug in and plug in a hard drive. It may take some trial and error to get the desired result. Once the hard drive is installed, it will tilt forward slightly toward the front of the docking station. There's nothing wrong with preventing its use. I would be concerned that this will strain/affect the hard drive or dock connectors with prolonged use. This is more noticeable when you have 2.5 inch laptop drives connected. The advantage of this docking station is that no additional drivers are required for use. Just plug it in, connect your hard drives and turn on the device. Taking a star off the rating as I had two minor issues with this unit and a slight difficulty loading a disc.
