I had an awful clicking sound when I started the front defroster or turned off the A/C recirculation. I bought it years ago and let it gather dust thinking I'd have to open the dash to replace it. It turns out you don't. And you don't even need a wrench for the 2003 Saturn Ion. doors, slide the seat all the way back and lie on your back under the dashboard. Use your left hand between the heater box and the passenger side of the car. You can feel it up there until you find it. You will feel the square shape and the wires coming out. Leave the cables connected to it and manually disconnect it from the entire drive. The 2003 Ion has no screws holding it in place. Once you let go of it, it should fall all the way down with the wires attached. Then unplug the cables and reinstall. It's difficult, but worth it. Be sure to drink orange juice first if your hands tend to cramp.
