Review on 💾 WD My Passport Ultra 500 GB Portable External USB 3.0 Hard Drive (Old Model) - Blue - Auto Backup Feature Included by Jonah Koehnke

I've been using a 640GB Seagate FreeAgent Go portable hard drive for about three years and wanted something with more storage and faster transfer speeds. I bought this drive for its whopping 2TB of storage and faster USB 3.0 interface. It comes with the drive, a 15-inch USB 3.0 cable, a soft case, a quick setup guide, and a 3-year limited warranty. The drive looks good and has a good finish. It doesn't look cheap, nor does it feel cheap. I love how compact it is. It's about an inch shorter than my FreeAgent Go and maybe a millimeter or two thicker. The included soft case is a nice touch and helps protect it from dust and dirt. Not an ideal case solution if you tend to drop things or are a little rough with your belongings, so you might want to invest in a more durable case. However, it works great for me as I keep mine in my bag when I'm on the go and it's a nice addition considering most other drives don't come with anything. The included USB cable is long enough to connect to a USB port on the front panel. my computer and grab the surface of my desk so give your thumbs up. B works as advertised. The transfer speed is about three times faster than USB 2.0 memory. I immediately noticed a difference in speed when transferring large files (1-5GB+) taking only 2-3 minutes instead of 5-10 minutes or more depending on the file size. I work with large media files all day, so the increase in transfer speed is really nice. The drive is very quiet in operation. You wouldn't even know it was on except for a tiny LED to the right of the USB port. So why only four stars? Hardware Passport Ultra does not differ from the usual series of portable drives WD Passport. These are exactly the same discs, only slightly different in appearance. What the regular Ultra passports lack is a soft case, an Ultra tag, and misleading WD branding on the box touting "Automatic and cloud backup plus security." "Automatic" backup simply refers to the terrible WD backup software that comes with the drive, WD SmartWare (more on that later). The "cloud" backup is basically the guide to setting up a DropBox account on the box. In earnest! They advertise cloud storage on the front of their packaging as if it were a feature they offer. Turn the box over and you'll see it's nothing more than a DropBox gimmick with instructions on how to set up an account.
