The Honda CRV key that came with the car started falling apart so it's time to get a new one. I've dealt with dealers before and they charge a ridiculous amount of money so I decided to give it a try. Using Youtube I installed a key fob for auto programming (or so I thought) that even after you hire a locksmith to laser cut the key you STILL have to go to the dealer to program it. Simply doing the above will get you to the point where everything seems to be working, but the car will shut off the fuel system if it decides the key is unauthorized. So, fair warning, I ended up saving about $20, but in hindsight it's probably not worth the hassle, and if your dealer won't charge you more than $200, just ask them and save yourself some hassle .
