may work for softwood but not hardwood. Cuts normally, smoothly, as it should be. However, no amount of tweaking can fix the fact that you can't tighten the connection tightly. It just doesn't fit. I've spent a few hours playing with this and figuring out what I'm doing wrong. It turns out it's a beat. The boards are stretched even before they are fully contracted. What a headache. I could tighten small joints (less than 2 inches) with great effort. If they were wider, they just wouldn't connect. Now I assembled the joint with a slight bevel (77 degrees instead of 90) and it was white oak. Maybe it would be a little tighter if I could have a better clamp angle, but I squashed it like hell with clamps and couldn't close it t If I had to do it again I'd spend the money on a better quality chisel.
