The cooling capacity of this device is quite poor. With ice in the upper compartment, the supply air temperature is approximately 72F. So if, like me, you have a sunny and hot 83-85 degree room that you need to cool down to around 80 degrees, the Honeywell Portable Indoor Evaporative Cooler will do just that. It takes about an hour and a half to lower the temperature by 3-4 degrees at maximum speed. I bought this cool box as an additional device to lower the temperature by 3-5 degrees in a hot room in the house. He does this job well. The biggest complaint about the device is the noise level. At high and medium speeds the thing is very noisy and at low speeds it is ineffective. I can't be near the room where the cooler is running because it's very noisy in there. I turn it on and walk to the opposite side of the house or patio while it cools the room. An important clue. This cooler has a "sleep" mode which can be confusing. In my experience with other humidifiers and heaters, sleep mode usually means a very quiet mode that allows it to run in the bedroom. With this device, everything is completely different. When sleep mode is selected, the cooler runs at high speed for an hour, then at medium speed for another hour, and then goes to low speed, which is by no means dormant. So I don't know what the Honeywell engineers were thinking when programming this mode. The design is outdated and not suitable for every room. The remote control is pretty much useless as you can't be in the same room as the cooler. In general, this is a normal device that has limited use. But for some people it can be helpful. I turned out to be one of them.
