Usually you need to adjust these settings right out of the box, no big deal (delivery, temperature, humidity, assembly line norms etc.). This micrometer was immediately proven accurate when I tested it on a new engine piston after testing it with the 4" gauge block that came with the kit. I bought this micrometer because the accuracy is 0.0001 which is the most important. my nameless micrometers are accurate to 0.001. The carbide tip is a nice touch, the price was fair and these things are good for what I do. I'm not working on a space shuttle or building a "flux capacitor" (from Back to the Future!), I'm just restoring an engine from a converted jet boat.
