Review on πŸ’§ Stay Hydrated on-the-go: Klean Kanteen TKWide Water Bottle Review by Byron Forman

Not the same company we remember years ago

************************** I had to quit in the last month to use or So this thermos. I used to fill it up with coffee in the mornings when I started work and keep it in the kitchen sink (lined with white porcelain, now an ugly mottled brown from all the coffee spurting out as the lid doesn't pour smoothly). But now the thermos gets hot on the outside right away and the coffee cools down for a couple of hours or so. I sign up and then I drink coffee. Warm. Sheet. At the same time or just before I bought this "luxury" Klean Kanteen thermos, I bought a cheap 12oz stainless steel thermos (all cc including lid). I've dropped this thing a dozen times and it still keeps the coffee hot a lot longer than the Klean Kanteen AND pours smoother (less mess). In this case, higher cost does not mean better quality or better customer service. I went back to Revain looking for a thermos with all stainless steel internals (including the lid) but with a smooth spout. One would think that with the popularity of coffee and all the news about suspicious new chemicals being leached from plastic into drinks, the company has already perfected this design. I will never believe a sticker that says plastic is safe just because it is "BPA Free". We have called Klean Kanteen FOUR TIMES in the last 3 months to try to find a solution. No Answer. Too bad we can't rely on Klean Kanteen anymore.************************UPDATE 1*********** * **** *** ****** I've been using my Klean Kanteen for over a year now. I fill it up with hot drinks every day, even in the summer. You can read my original review below of why I love Klean Kanteen, but over the past six months I've found a major issue with my thermos. I fill the thermos with boiling hot coffee and thirty minutes later the outside of the thermos is so hot I can't touch it. Before I knew it, my hot coffee was lukewarm in just a few hours. I think something in the isolation system is broken. Disappointing. A small issue I mentioned below is that the lid squirts liquid all over the place no matter how carefully I pour. Now that I'm working from home, I keep a thermos full of coffee warm in the kitchen sink and pour it out of the sink to help with the inevitable cleanup. A little remark. Within the first week of receiving my thermos, I contacted the company (Klean Kanteen) about my problem with the lid. I even mentioned that I would be willing to buy an improved thermos (with a pouring lid) if I was convinced there was one that poured better. They "note" my concerns but didn't say anything else. This company used to have great customer service and that's what made our family come back for our thermos/bottle water. But even before the pandemic hit, Klean Kanteen seemed big enough to stop investing in customer service to solve problems. All in all, I am very sorry that I cannot recommend Klean Kanteen more. I've been with them for about ten years, but our recent experience with this 32oz thermos and the company's customer service representatives (June 2019) led us to look for another stainless steel bottle supplier. ********* ************Original Review************************ I used about a Dozen stainless steel water bottles in the last 20 years - four of which I still use. This is my third Klean Kanteen product. I often try to save money by buying something cheaper, but I always end up getting burned. All of my other stainless steel water bottles have rust spots inside. My oldest bottle of Klean Kanteen, a single-wall stainless steel bottle, is about ten years old and still works, as does the company's advertising. I have traveled all over Asia with this bottle and even peeked from great heights while hiking the mountain trails. And he returned to the US with me unharmed. One of my old insulated Klean Kanteen bottles (small 12oz) finally died after I had it for about seven years. I must have left liquids in it for too long because it fell apart at the bottom. I take responsibility for that. Having recently had a cap on another cheap stainless steel bottle fail (it was flooded with water inside, I couldn't remove it) I noticed that it had rusted in less than a year of use in the bottle. I am certain that the severe bowel problems I have recently had, which coincided with the discovery of a dirty bottle cap, were the result of drinking contaminated water. So I went back to Clint Cantin. This time I will be more careful with this bottle and dry it thoroughly between uses. I also won't submerge the cap in water as that seems to be the weak point with most bottles. So far (just received) I particularly like the tight bottle cap - with TWO silicone rings and the new Klean Kanteen screw cap system. The lid can be screwed on without any problems, even if I slightly align the body and lid. As I type this, a bottle of hot liquid is upside down on my desk. While it initially dripped, the dripping stopped as soon as I tightened the lid until I could tighten it further. I hope that tightening the lid will not break the structure. The sides of the cap are plastic, but the liquid contact surface is stainless steel surrounded by a single silicone ring. I noticed that the plastic was wet when I unscrewed the lid, so I think the liquid made contact with the plastic and then drained back into the bottom of the main compartment. I generally don't like plastic caps in a water bottle, and I'm surprised Klean Kanteen didn't come up with a stainless steel cap option for this bottle. Another limitation is also a plus point for me: the beautifully rounded bottleneck. While drinking from a machine-smoothed lip is very pleasant, I have a hard time pouring it out without spilling the liquid. I work part time from home and part time from uni. I always have my bottle with me in class or in my office in my lab. These are very bad places to spill things. I still don't know how to solve this problem. I could have spent another $10 on a redesigned Klean Kanteen thermos with a "spill" (lid) feature, but I figured this bottle would do. I hope Klean Kanteen has an idea how to solve this problem. So, if you don't mind that pouring hot liquids can cause spills, and don't mind the plastic sides of the bottle cap (I'm already in the process of replacing the stainless steel cap, as well as the caps on my other Klean Kanteens bottles ), this is a solid bottle. And the company guarantee is excellent. How do I know? I have called them about another bottle in the past and they have done everything they can to take care of me. That kind of customer service makes my business lifelong. They can be sure to invest a little more in higher quality Klean Kanteen products and their commitment to actually helping their customers (instead of just processing orders). Overall I am happy with the purchase although I will look for a better cap if the company still carries it. I will update my review if anything significant changes.
