My laptop came with a SMART error on the hard drive and several hotkeys didn't work (Mic Mute, Screen Brightness -, Screen Brightness +). Interestingly, the laptop came with a protective sticker on the mouse pad. I sent the notebook back for a new one. The 2nd laptop had no smart bug but the same hotkeys didn't work and sometimes the touchpad mouse became unresponsive (I was still able to use the joystick mouse). I have updated the BIOS and drivers but the problems persist. The solution was to reset the BIOS with UEFI (originally set to Legacy), factory reset (with Windows 8 Pro) with the disc sent to me by HP support, at this point the BIOS and drivers with the Update disc from HP. Support, then install Windows 10 and then activate Windows 10 Pro. Now everything works fine. (Thanks to the HP support team for all the help!) Bottom line: unless you're tech savvy, these little quirks will be a problem to fix. Now that it's working properly I'm really enjoying it. I would not have chosen this laptop if I had known about the problems beforehand.
