Ethernet has stopped working, but charging is still possible

Everything works fine the first time it is connected. I mainly use it on my Android phone for streaming because I have weak WiFi, but sometimes I use it on my laptop too. I've found that if you leave it plugged into a power source and come back later to plug it into your device, it charges but the ethernet may not show up. You'll need to unplug it and then plug it back in for ethernet to be available again. I sent the first one back thinking I had a malfunction but the second one still has a problem. I was hoping there might be a firmware update since every cheap USB-C to Ethernet adapter I've ever used doesn't, but I didn't see anything on the Belkin website. I bought it because it's less clunky than USB hub + HDMI + Ethernet devices. Only buy it if you plan on keeping it in your pocket and plugging it in for a short time. It should work fine for that. Since there is always something on the table connected to the power supply, the ethernet goes into bad shape and requires the power supply to be disconnected and reconnected.
