Review on πŸ‘• Men's Clothing: Champion Double Performance Sleeve T-Shirt and Tanks by Davon Clark

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great sun shirt at a great price. Essentially identical to Hanes Cool Dri.

Here in South Florida, long sleeve sunscreen is a must. Outdoor tech t-shirts are really expensive, but many years ago I found that Hanes Cool Dri shirts worked just as well for a fraction of the price, and they've been my favorite shirts ever since. The shirts never wear out, stains are easy to remove, they are very comfortable and cool. I recently had to replace a couple of these shirts so I decided to try these Champion Double Dry shirts for comparison. Bottom line, these Champion shirts are almost identical to the Hanes Cool Dri, which is not surprising as Champion is a sub-brand of Hanes and both shirts are made in Guatemala, likely from the same line. So the differences I've noticed are probably just minor annual changes in specs. Both the Hanes Cool Dri and Champion Double-Dry are made from what I believe to be identical fabrics. It is a silky smooth synthetic fabric with a dense weave that is pleasant to the touch and highly absorbent. My Hanes shirts offer excellent sun protection so I expect Champion to do the same as the fabric appears to be identical. Both shirts cost about the same (Revain prices fluctuate daily) and both are bargains compared to technical outdoor products. Mechanism. Considering I only need sun protection for beach and kayak trips and no survival gear, these shirts are perfect. I can get 4-5 of these for the price of a tech shirt at an outdoor supply store. The Champion shirt has flat seams around the armholes. This means that the extra row of stitches is visible on the outside but has a flatter seam on the inside. I've had no problem chafing Hanes tees, but the Champion's flatlock seams win. Perhaps current vintage Hanes shirts have moved into the same line (my Hanes shirts are a few years old now). The champion has a logo on the back. Hanes has no external branding. So Hanes wins on that point in my book. Both brands have printed labels, not neck labels, which is important. The Champion also has a fabric care label sewn around the waist. I had to edit it out, so Hans wins in that regard. The Champion has a reflective C logo on the sleeve. I don't usually like the external branding but in this case the reflective patch is a nice touch as it provides extra visibility at night when headlights are shining on it. I run on beaches, not roads, so personally I don't care, but it's a nice feature for highway runners. Champion Perk. Verdict: Hanes Cool Dri and Champion Double-Dry appear almost identical apart from minor branding differences like the external logo. In my opinion, the Champion wins on the nose with flat seams around the armholes and a collar of the same fabric, although perhaps Hanes shirts are made that way now. The things I liked least about the Champion (the little logo at the back of the neck and the care tag sewn into the waist) are small and handy.
