Review on πŸͺ‘ Classic Style and Comfort: Regency Regent Guest Chair in Mahogany/Black by Ronda Allen

Not quite, but not bad at all

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this chair but overall it's attractive and uncomfortable. To be more specific, I would start with the construct. The chair consists of relatively few parts, since the two legs are also armrests and the backrest is already assembled. However, the seat cushion is not connected to the wooden frame underneath. The hardware I have is different than what the other reviewer shows, suggesting the company has updated their product. The first step of the instructions states that the cushion should be attached to the frame with three screws. I looked for standard pre-drilled holes but there weren't any. This is the first chair I've bought where I've had to measure or guess exactly where to place the cushion and screw it on by hand. The pillow really needs to be attached from the start. I was lucky to get this step right because if it messes up, the chair can get messed up and the holes will be slightly out of place where they should be. In any case, the rest of the chair is screwed to the desired length. They come in three sizes and while they won't tell you everything, the shortest should be used with a lock washer and then the regular flat washer closest to the tree. The smallest screws don't match the washers so I had to go back and swap out a few things. Once assembled, the chair is strong and relatively durable. One feature is that the first step with wood screws requires a Phillips screwdriver with a long, narrow shank. My standard screwdriver that accepts bits didn't work because the shank is too thick to fit. The seat looks gorgeous, with a beautiful wooden frame, classic Victorian styling and a striking black patterned fabric. Unfortunately, this fabric sags, as was originally intended for the large plush cushions. It's also like the thin cushions offer little support. This chair reminds me of those office chairs that are designed to keep you from lounging around for too long. They are not comfortable at all. I think a smart person could use a nice wooden base for matching cushions to create a nice seating arrangement. So, apart from the really cheap price, it's hard to recommend this chair. With the right padding in the back and front, which would also enhance the look, I would find it easier to ignore awkward fitting methods.

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • No paint needed
