Great for transporting a younger child to school

I am very happy with this bike rear seat. We've only been using it for 10 days but so far so good, cycling a total of 4 miles a day. My 4.5 year old had outgrown the car seat and I needed a way to protect him whilst cycling to school with my eldest son. The younger one is far from ready to ride back and forth on his own every day. It fits comfortably in the seat, and so far we've had no issues with it keeping its feet properly on the footpegs. I simply explained the importance of keeping your feet on the pegs and never touching the wheel or chain or we would fall. I didn't put zip ties or ropes to keep his feet on the footrests as I want him to be able to get off immediately if need be. As other reviewers point out, the steering wheel, which the passenger holds onto, is right on the biker's side. I can feel my son's hands on my butt all the time while I'm on the bike, but it doesn't matter and we haven't had any issues with him letting go or risking a fall. That was my main concern, but he totally agrees. My father-in-law installed the cushion, pedals and steering wheel. I found it too cumbersome to do it myself and if he couldn't have done it I would have had to take it to a bike shop, just a note for those unfamiliar with this sort of thing. He mounted it on a bike rack that I already had on the bike for a child seat that we had outgrown and had to drill some new holes. The seat back is so far back that my son never uses it because he leans forward to hold onto the steering wheel, but I think the seat back would be useful when carrying a taller passenger. In general I am very satisfied as it was exactly what I needed. The materials seem to be of good quality and I plan to use them for a few years until our son is ready to ride his bikes to school.
