It took me about 45 minutes to replace mine in a cold Indiana winter. Most of the time was spent removing the door panel. 20 year old truck in the cold; Things are expected to be fragile. It might be nice to have a few extra door clips on hand. I didn't know what type they were, so I just hoped I didn't break too much. I'm not sure if this grip has been replaced in the past, but I didn't have to drill out the rivets to get mine off. I put a screw in the back hole to keep it from moving. This may have contributed to his death. If you look at the pictures you will see what is wrong with these pens. Mine was metal, as was this replacement, but it's still just pot metal. Fatigue is to be expected with age. Comparing this replacement to what was there I expect it to last for many years. I'm happy and will probably replace the other side when it gets warmer. It also has some trouble getting the locking mechanism to engage properly. Helpful Hints: Please note that the pen does not fit properly in the picture. Sometimes it was still possible to open the door with a strong pull, as if with a turning movement. This probably contributed to the shearing off of the pot's metal. I don't think there are more holes in this handle. You can complete this entire project with just a couple of screwdrivers. You'll probably have Phillips for the armrest. Use a tiny flat blade to catch the retaining ring on the power window handle. Then a short push appears. Find it and put it back on the handle. He'll just move away with him in the slot. A larger flat blade fits under the door panel and you can gently pry open each clip, or just pry it far enough to insert your fingers and quickly pull it out. I know it sounds harsh, but plastic doesn't like being held on to it. The clips will either break or pop out. Have a drill ready. You may have to remove the rivet to find this out. Keep a variety of small screws handy to replace these rivets. That's why you have a coffee can full of nuts and bolts. Look at the door hinges. As they wear, the weight of the door rests on the latch assembly. That's why you pull so hard on the door handle. Look at the attacker. Do you see wear on the upper? It's coming from door hinges.
