I have been running aquariums for 45 years and these air pumps, while not entirely 'quiet', are as quiet as can be - unless of course you don't places them Don't pump into the next room and run a hose through the wall into the tank. Don't laugh, this is fairly common among serious aquarists who love bubbles and can't stand the noise. You see, over the years I've had just about every popular and affordable air pump, AND NONE OF THEM ARE QUIET. Many are downright offensive. It's quietest to do without air pumps altogether, but if, like me, you just can't live without those pretty bubbles - and by the way. Bubbles are not needed in a properly filled and filtered tank - then these Whisper air pumps are the quietest available. However, you will also tweak and move these from time to time to "cut through" the noise. This is just a fact of life as an aquarium air pump owner. I have three of these pumps in my house. Two of them are over three years old and still going strong. And I can tell you they are a huge improvement over traditional boxy air pumps that will almost shake most pictures off the wall. it is on an old, thick and soft mouse pad. It's ok if you need to crop it to fit the specific space you have. I make this for a bedroom whisper pump and it makes the quietest air pump available you can make even quieter. And by the way. That crazy loud pump in the "Don't Buy" video review is long overdue and needs to be sent back for a replacement. I think the chance of getting one is very slim. Much luck. UPDATE: Just bought 2 more of these. They work great and produce more air than any other pump you can get at this price point. My others are still pretty calm after a few years. The trick to increasing longevity is to never use overly restrictive air stones or jewelry with a cheap air pump. If it forms very small bubbles, it is likely to put a lot of pressure on the pump diaphragm, which will greatly reduce the life of the pump. I stay away from really restrictive devices and my pumps last for years. I look for stones that form larger bubbles and often use an open ended tube. The best bricks I've found for this lately are cheap colored plastic bricks that screw together. And always buy the right pump for the depth of your pool. Different tank recommendations apply for water depth because more force is required to push air into deeper tanks.
