This is by far the best product I have ever bought for my gerbil! He just loves it! It comes fully assembled except for the bolt that engages and the bell which I haven't bothered with. The only thing he didn't like was the foil, but that's okay because you can easily remove it. It's not a chew guard but I don't care because I just want him to have some fun and if that means he chewed a little then he only chewed a little on the bottom door, the one with the pink one roof protrudes. and a little here and there along the edges. It's also not something I would try to clean with soap and water but it never gets "dirty" so I don't do anything with it other than clean the sheets and throw it away because it's something like, how we treat our home, he keeps it nice and tidy.
