When cheap they are the best deal of any home filter when it comes to rain. These are not water softeners and they do not solve all water problems. But if you have issues with water debris this is good value if available and cheap. If they are from other sellers and are $10 a pair I would suggest skipping them and just getting something at your local hardware store. One lasts about 2 months but I have local water that is high in iron and suspended solids, although it's easy on my appliances I haven't had to clean the washing machine screen since I installed a whole house filter.
