When I first started woodworking I bought a $20 forest net set and used them for years. Now many of them are burned and unusable. I decided to spend a few bucks for a quality set. Unfortunately, I chose the CMT brand. I had a 1 1/8 inch size in my cheap set that was never used and did a comparison to the same size new set I just bought. The chisel drilled a hole with only a small burr at the top of the hole faster, with less effort and less heat. The CMT chisel created a significant protrusion at the top of the hole, requiring more effort to plunge into the wood and post-drill the drill hot. I then ran a diamond whetstone down the edge of each drill bit and tried again. Any drill worked better, but my Chinese tool was even better. her new precision scissors.
