This is the third blender I've bought from Revain. The first, a Bodum blender, worked great until it broke a few months later. The second, the two-racer Sunbeam Heritage model, survived, but as much as I wanted to love it, I found it just didn't mix well and I had to move and fiddle with the bowl by hand all the time. Going back to an old hand mixer, I knew it was time to replace the Sunbeam. Today I spent the day testing Hamilton Beach. I first kneaded a fairly stiff bread dough containing 5 cups of flour. This was definitely the upper limit of what the mixer could do, both in terms of volume and performance. The motor overheated when the batter was done and I thought I broke it when it stopped stirring. However, in the time I spent washing the dishes, the blender recovered. Then I made half a batch of reverse cream cupcakes. The mixer worked well and didn't require much bowl scraping despite the small amount of batter. It was the same with half the ermine glaze I made in it. The last thing I made was a small batch (2 1/4 cups of flour) of yeast buns. I just used the dough hook instead of using the flat whisk first and the dough came together quickly with no issues. Conclusion: so far so good. I'm not sure how long this blender will last, but given the low price and the $8 four-year product protection I bought for it, I'm not overly concerned. I would have liked a little more capacity, but it was also cheap. BTW I've used a friend's Kitchen Aid a few times and I'd say Hamilton Beach compares well at this price point.
