Review on Intel Core i7-4790K CPU (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) - BX80646I74790K by Mateusz Sobczyk ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I was surprised by the quality for the price.

Together with the processor, I took ASUS Z97 Mark 2, immediately after installation I noticed that in applications the temperature rose to 85, in stress tests to 91 degrees. After that, I climbed into UEFI and saw that the mother was raising the voltage to 1.28 volts. Downgraded to 1.2 exactly. I set the multiplier x46, which corresponds to a frequency of 4600 Mhz. Made synchronization of all kernels. I slowed down all the coolers to a minimum, except for the CPU and set up DIGI +, rebooted. ALL! In the stress test, Aida became 73, in applications 69. Paired with a processor, it costs 970 ovens - together they don’t even eat 350 watts, since the power supply always works at low speeds. That's the whole secret of Haswell architecture =) DIGI+ settings for all owners of fancy motherboards from ASUS: VRM Frequency - 400 kHz Phase Control - Manual Adjustment - Ultra Fast Duty Control-Extreme CPU Current Capability - 120% Loadline Calibration - I left it at 6. Attention! After that, the VRM starts to heat up very much, but if the temperature is within 100 degrees, then everything is fine. Why change the power algorithm? With such a low voltage, Windows will emit blue periodically, in order to avoid this, you need to change the algorithm. After that, the temperature will be very democratic at high frequencies and low voltage. All good!

Pros
  • 1. Fast. 2. Easy to overclock. 3. Economical. 4. Enough for cooling - 4 years ago Hyper 212+
Cons
  • 1. With default settings, it gets very hot. 2. Responds sharply to an increase in voltage - an increase in temperature. 3. Price in 2022.
