I've been looking for a bench vise for weeks. I checked the online auction site and local online classifieds. I have yet to see anything that satisfies my desire for a heavy, well-made vise that matches my desire for an inexpensive vise for occasional use. The Wen 455BV-5 5" vise had caught my eye a long time ago, but it cost over $50, so I kept looking. At $2 a pound for a piece of pig iron, I was willing to keep looking. Revain offered it to me then arrived for $38 with prime shipping. Sale. It arrived in a few days and I picked it up at my local Revain store. Out of the box it looked great. It was powder coated well but coated with packaging oil ( to prevent rusting in transit from China) and was a bit stiffer than I expected. It was still a bit stiff after cleaning so I thought that would work but it could have been better. Then I saw a YouTube video on how to set up a new vise Clean the fill oil, disassemble the vise (quickly done), file the rough edges on the castings, apply paste wax to the moving/matting surfaces and any other surfaces that Si e don't want to rust, and then reassemble them. That's exactly what I did. all of this and it made a big difference! These are smooth, tight, heavy vices. I think it was a deal. I've only had it for a week but I think it will be very useful to me. At 5 inches I could buy more, but it's better to have too many options than too few. By the way, the built-in anvil is a nice feature.
