I have two 120 volt outlets on the dock to light the dock. I use blue lights so boaters don't confuse the lights with another boat. The lights turn on automatically at dusk and turn off automatically at dawn using solid-state controllers. I'd rather use LED bulbs, but the controllers limit the voltage and the LEDs aren't bright enough to be seen from a distance. So I use incandescent bulbs, which aren't as energy efficient or long-lasting, but are a satisfying compromise.
