Seriously, I use 2-3 plastic pens a year. They are easy to obtain but short-lived and tend to let through small particles. These steel grilles are very strong and durable. They filter out the smallest particles and are ideal for my bedding for mealworms and toy soldiers. They are simply hung on an S-shaped hook or nail and nest. The smaller scoop has sharp edges, making it great for getting into the corners of cages and aquariums. The larger one has rounded edges, which makes it look better overall. Plus, it's so much bigger that it can do more at once. They are good enough that I can filter out most of the fine particles and when I filter the aquarium all the insect parts and exoskeleton can be captured so I can remove them from the sand. It definitely makes a big difference in how much I can strain and how much rot smell I can get out of the tanks. Even the smallest bits of bugs and rotting food contribute to a smelly reservoir, so that's great. I love that this set includes two filters for only $23. The price is fair and the large sieve makes the job even faster. I don't see an option to use this for kitty litter, but I imagine it can be used for very fine screening after first finishing with a regular scoop. I wouldn't use them for food just because they don't say "food grade" and sometimes the manufacturing processes are different for non-food grade products. I would definitely take them again if I ever need another serving. They're worth it and worth keeping an extra set on hand. A mealworm tank, black soldier fly beds, and aquarium sand have never been cleaner just by scooping them up.
