I was in Morocco recently and they brought us bowls of pomegranate seeds for breakfast. I love pom pom seeds, which are high in fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and potassium, but the not-so-messy process of loosening them from the skin. Grocery stores sell small containers of pom-pom seeds around the holidays, but they're so expensive that frequent use becomes prohibitive. This little device gave me my strength back! Halve the pom pom. Place one half on the net, cover with a rubber hood and beat with a mallet or meat mallet. Yes, some heartwood falls into a bowl of gorgeous red seeds, but it's very little of it and only takes a few minutes to collect. I get fresh seeds - and lots of them - whenever I want. I sprinkle yogurt, oatmeal, pancakes, salads on top and eat them whole. Carrots baked in tomato juice and sprinkled with seeds are a festive side dish. Winter fruit and granola salad with farro, tangerine slices, pompom seeds and toasted walnuts. I'm not the type to collect disposable kitchen utensils, but this pom pom planter is awesome!
