***Note. It was brought to my attention that Matrikx CTO Plus should probably be installed first (tap source). According to the product description, it is said to fight haze and deposits and has a slightly larger pore size. This is very important when dealing with an untreated water source (e.g. well water). I've updated the overview to reflect my current configuration. I use typical city water (no turbidity/settling issues). I was looking for a replacement for the Watts Premier 560088 Carbon Block Lead Cyst VOC 2-Stage Replacement Filter Block that I used in my Watts WP2BVC Under-Counter Filter System (same as Watts 500313 2-Stage Under-Counter Filter Element), Cysts and volatile organic compounds). Drinking water treatment system (WP2LCV, but different filter material is used for carbon block). I have a haze/deposit problem. I received KX Matrikx 01-250-125-975 High Capacity Chemical Filter, Chlorine Taste & Odor Reduction Filter, 10 Inch (Matrikx CTO Plus, purple cap) and KX Matrikx 06-250-125-975 Lead, Cyst, Chlorine Taste Filter and Odor reduction, 10" (Matrikx Pb1, gray cap). I washed the filters in stages: I installed CTO Plus in the front housing (outlet) and washed for 10 minutes, then I installed PB1 in the second housing (I also have CTO Plus left) and washed for another 10 minutes. This was to avoid saturating the second carbon block with washing waste from the first carbon block. The first tasting test gave exactly what I expected: pure, high-quality water. Despite the impressive results, I have to come back to this review and see how these filters perform over the long term If you have trouble unscrewing the filter housing (even with an adj operable wrench), the system is probably hydrolocked. In addition to closing the faucet source valve, make sure the faucet valve is open to let air in. If the o-ring is not being replaced, be sure to carefully remove the existing one (I used a small flat head screwdriver). and lubricate with silicone grease. Update August 21, 2015: Rating changed from 4 to 5 stars. It's been over a year now and these filters continue to provide clean water at the original pressure. I estimate that we use no more than 5 gallons of filtered water per day. While this is less than half of the expected lifespan of this configuration, I am pleased that it is performing as advertised. Update August 16, 2016: I decided to change the filters just in case. There weren't any problems with the flow, but I believe the taste has finally changed. The attached photos show the accumulation of sludge from two years of use on the faucet filter housing. I cleaned it with half a cup of bleach in hot water, rinsed, then soap and hot water with a paper towel. I will definitely buy another set of these filters.
