RGB overload and love for it.

Roccat Magma is quite an interesting keyboard. RGB backlit keyboards have been ubiquitous and popular for over a decade, but Roccat Magma takes them to a whole new level. Just look at these photos on his website! The RGB lighting on its plate gives the impression that the keys are floating in the air. If the lighting is too intense, it can be fully customized at any time using the Roccat AIMO software. Even with RGB turned off completely, I really like the white background under the keycaps and the little black bezels. I also appreciated that it was a full-size keyboard as I use the numeric keypad quite a bit. Build quality is decent. The entire keyboard feels a little flimsy as the plastic case flexes a bit and I'd be worried about dropping it off a desk. The keycaps look a little cheap, but they still feel comfortable. The keycaps are easy to remove, which is great as the white bezel may need cleaning more often than not. The USB cable is a good length but feels a little heavy, but that's not a big deal. I'm not very impressed with the included wrist rest as I think it feels too stiff and doesn't fit well. I wish it had better padding (softer plastic or rubber) and attached with magnets instead. For some, that doesn't really matter as I use a fabric-lined gel palm rest instead. But what about performance? I am happy to report that I have enjoyed my time with him so far. Membrane keys feel great when typing wildly. It took a while to get set up given the purely mechanical keyboard, but the anti-ghosting feature helps my accuracy a lot. Good key travel and response even to light finger pressure. One thing I didn't know I would love is how quiet the typing is. Coming from a mechanical keyboard, this is again a welcome change, as keystroke noise can be distracting when you're talking through the mic or gaming at night. There's also an "Easy Shift" feature where pressing the CAPS key opens up more typing features. Despite not having the best build quality, the design (oh my gosh, RGB!), the typing experience, and the AIMO implementation make the Magma a great value. for this price. I definitely recommend it as a second keyboard for night use!
