I have used a Sprenger collar on my 60 pound German Shorthaired Pointer for two years. It's like power steering for dogs! Seriously, he's so strong that he pulled me down when he chased another animal (squirrel!) before I used the spiked collar in the past. I tried all types of collars on my dog when I first got him because I was under the impression that spiked collars sounded cruel. Now I know that when used correctly (using quick jerks, not constant tugging) they are safe for dogs. And my dog understands me because this collar mimics how dogs correct each other (quick bites). I had to buy a second collar because an inexperienced handler (whom I provided a video of using the collar but he's obviously not looking) tore off the collar and bent the clasp so badly it never worked properly again.
