I purchased a wooden handled version of this item for use with embossed leather goods. I'm relatively new to leatherworking and didn't want to spend more than $60 to purchase some of the more "professional" sledgehammers I've seen on both leather sites and Revain (like Al Stallman's tools). This tool seemed like a good starting point without having to spend a lot of money. Before ordering I will be honest and say that I was a little hesitant as to what to expect in terms of quality. I was pleasantly surprised by what I received. The sledgehammer is well balanced and has a good weight on its head. The handle has a good contour and is comfortable to hold. I found it very easy to use. The nylon is quite durable and has withstood several months of use with minimal signs of wear. The handle appears to be pine. It is beautifully painted and finished but I am a little concerned that the softer wood will hold up to regular use over a long period of time. But so far I haven't had any problems and am happy with this purchase. For the price I couldn't expect more. I have attached photos showing the dimensions of what I received as there seems to be some discrepancies. The tool I received is about 8 inches long and weighs 12.2 ounces.
