Review on πŸš€ HornetTek X2 USB 3.0 Type C Gen I & Type A Dual Bay 3.5" HDD Enclosure with RAID 0 & RAID 1 - High-Speed Data Transfer at 5 Gbps by Mike Betzing

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not exactly what I expected, but it worked.

According to the description, it should only work with hard drives up to 3 TB. This wasn't a problem as I'm using 2 x 3TB hard drives that I already had. However, I did get an X2-U3 II that claims to be able to support hard drives up to 10TB. So maybe I have a newer version. Interestingly, HornetTek doesn't even list this model on their website. only one problem No matter how I toggle the DIP switches, it always works as usual and shows up as 2 separate physical volumes. And yes, I did hold down the reset button after changing the switches. I was thinking of sending it back, but. I just decided to use Windows 10 Storage Spaces to create a software mirror (Raid 1). These 2 drives were in a WD MyCloudEX2 Ultra that stopped working. So I couldn't just take the discs out and put them in the computer. I had to borrow MyCloudEX2 to host them to be able to restore the data. If the controller ever fails, I can use the storage space to easily mount the hard drives into the desktop PC to recover the data. Everything worked out.

Pros
  • Not cheap, but decent
Cons
  • Nothing
