Well, I'll start by saying that another customer wrote a review here and mentioned that the first one didn't fully embrace the disc. Then he replaced the block and it worked fine as it should. I'll explain this by stating that I know the EXACT reason why this was the case. These discs may be new, let alone not. But if they are, it's sad that they'll be dirty. If they are repaired but certified as NEW. Then I'm still not impressed because it wasn't supposed to be "dirty". Yes ladies and gentlemen, I quickly started the install as usual because I had other Xbox One controllers/mods, cleaning, etc. to do. So I put both boards on my workbench. I opened both up, added flux to the solder joints. Then I replaced my daughter board from my OG drive with a new one. I assembled the console as usual, connected AC, HDMI and Ethernet. Got to work, did a reset on the console. According to Microsoft, your drive does not read discs. Then I cycled the power supply (holding the power button for 10-15 seconds). Switches from Instant-On mode to Sleep mode. Booted up the console, after this last run I finally hear the drive making noise. This had never happened before, so I listened carefully. When it spins and the motor spindle spins when the console is started. The drive will make "some" noise. But mine was making a loud and distinct "whining, fading" noise. I gave the record a full charge to run. Nothing happened and he didn't throw himself out. Ps To save time I didn't mention it. Because that wasn't the reason. But I tore off one of the motor wires while replacing the daughter boards. So I accidentally had to do a little soldering. In all that time, I NEVER carefully checked the drive for cleanliness. Now back to the drive. It wouldn't read or reject the disc and made strange noises. I completely disassembled the Xbox AGAIN. This time I disassembled the disk piece by piece. Every screw has been removed on every bracket and almost every moving part. Includes upper and lower metal shells and lasers/guides. Problem: Disc will not read/eject discs. Diagnostics: Relocate the drive to a new one, replace daughterboards. Catharsis: UNINTENDED ISSUE AFTER SWAP. "The drive is just as dirty or dirtier than a used one. Therefore, to solve this problem, I chemically cleaned ALL PARTS IN THE ACTUATOR with a brush (except for the laser or its equivalent of course!). the most important parts to keep your drive running smoothly. Use paper towels if that's all you have, or a lint-free cloth. Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol 91% or better. Optional: toothbrush. which runs next to the locomotive. 2 very small Phillips screws hold it. Also a few more points where cogs or cogs meet. Dry them twice, then with alcohol and then with CRC electronics cleaner. Then towel/Qtip, fix and let dry for 15 minutes. There must be no moisture in the drive! When reassembling, use "White Lithium Grease" to lubricate all MECHANISMS/TRACKS (plastic and mostly white). Make sure 2 (rubber bands/drive belts) are thoroughly cleaned with alcohol and dried before reassembly. this is important! A thicker, snake-like belt is DURABLE and cannot be taken off and put on again. But take your time, anything is possible. Optional: You can clean the laser, but DO NOT use ANY LIQUIDS. Not even alcohol, take a cotton swab. Wash your hands thoroughly, dry them and put on a pair of nitrile gloves before touching anything. Then pull/stretch one side of the cotton swab until it's really fluffy. Dry your lips with a saliva-free towel. Then rub the swollen tip of the swab over the laser lens. Then, with dry lips, smack lips vigorously to rid them of particles. Collected as usual the hard drive and the Xbox One. Make sure, however, that the foam/velcro strips are on the standard disc. Replace with a new one EXACTLY SO. This secures the plastic pins to the clip on the back of the optical drive. Mounts flush to the motherboard. Also, the front of the drive sits perfectly in the hole and SHOULD NOT move after installation. Place the tips of all 4 fingers and the thumb on the top of the actuator before closing/assembling the case. Slightly rock it back and forth and push the disc lightly. To see if it moves, let's say a SMALL bit. But it shouldn't OPEN/SLIDE. Once your Xbox One Face is aligned and assembled with the drive. 100% guarantee! This assumes the motor/laser has not failed and there are no cut or broken ribbon cables or broken pins. That will work! But it may take, as they say, "a little effort and patience." This is the only reason I gave this product 3 stars instead of 5. But shipping was fast and it's still a brand new drive that works. So definitely recommend if you have the skills. To clean it if possible and of course to install it yourself. Good luck everyone!
