We installed this in our basement for use during tornado season and when a recent hurricane knocked out our power supply it has stood the test! Emitters allow you to direct the rays in two directions. The structure itself is high quality you can see and feel, and the light output is incredible; I fully understand the price this is set at and am actually surprised it isn't more expensive. I was able to direct a single beam of light down the stairs to the basement to illuminate the stairwell and floor for safety, and guide the children and their babysitter to the stairs in the event of a power outage due to a severe storm, where there is a need to take shelter, which is often the case here. The other beam is aimed at the door to the innermost basement room where we have instructed the children and their nanny to take shelter. Having seen how well it illuminates the exact path I need to get to safety, having this lighting design in our home has given my husband and I peace of mind that even if the wide area lights don't stay on, we know. and after the charge is lost, instead of trying to go down the steep stairs to the basement and around the basement with the help of the phone's spotlight, the children can instead run on a free path to where they need to go. For the same reasons, it also helps our two older dogs to walk down stairs when needed.
