Review on πŸ”Œ Enhance Video Connectivity: Introducing the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter - Analog to SDI by John Murphy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for transferring tape recordings - VHS, Beta, Hi8 etc

I have used this converter to transfer all my videotapes from my VCRs with S-VIDEO outputs (using the S-Video Y adapter cable). The advantage of this converter is that you can connect RCA audio to it (using 1/4 adapters). Also, I've always had perfect audio sync when using this converter. I then use the SDI output for a field recorder (eg Blackmagic Video Assist). This allows me to record in PRORES with the highest possible quality. If you need the best possible transfer of data to tape for personal or business purposes, this converter is an indispensable part of your workflow. I've had mine for 3 or 4 years now and haven't had any problems. It does NOT have a built-in Time Base Corrector (TBC). So if you want to improve tracking, remove tearing and jitter from the tape (and reduce other artifacts), you'll need to purchase the TBC separately.
