They're great when you need extra closet space to hang clothes to pack for a trip or to hang up after ironing. As others have said, my door is too close to the wall to hang from the back, but if you have a room where you don't care if people see your clothes, they certainly give you extra hanging space! Since my doors were a little thinner than the protruding hooks, I glued a piece of thin wood staple to them to make them more even; This will prevent the metal from damaging your door. If the details bothered me I could paint and glue a piece of wood to match the door, but I was in a hurry! In another spot where I hung it on a glass door, I attached a piece of mole skin to keep it from tearing where it touches the glass. You can also use sticky felt that you can buy to prevent items from scratching the table surface.
