I have many things that only serve one function so if I decide to buy a different tool , which has only one purpose, I hesitated and thought a lot. After spending a frustrating day creating a little booklet for my homeschooled son, I thought it might be worth going ahead and trying the Martha Stewart Scoreboard. Boy am I glad I did! I've made a few postcards out of it, made a few paper boxes, made a gift bag or two, and even folded a piece of cardboard with an accordion patch for a cute bow for one of my boxes. Some information that might be helpful. 1) I have an old ivory bone folder. Today most are made of plastic. If you can find bone or even antique ivory, this is your best option. The tool that comes with the scoreboard is not a heavy tool and its edges are too sharp. This can be one of the tearing factors described in some reviews. Still, you can get a good result with the one provided. Just be careful! You can also use an imprinted pen to write with, and if you can find one there are even craft tools with little knobs on the end (they're sold for pergammano or paper stamping) that you can hammer with. Integrated shelf for counter and triangle included. This is a wonderful feature! The storage tray also offers space for an x-acto knife. 3) Cards are the best material for a scoreboard. However, you can get great results on standard paper, but you have to be careful and score easily. Perform a few light transitions across the crease instead of one hard pass and you can usually avoid an accidental tear. I used corrugated cardboard, plain paper, and parchment. The parchment crumples BEAUTIFULLY! 4) Spend some time and a few sheets of paper to get familiar with the tool. I think this is necessary to get a good result. Check out my photos of my gift bags. All are made of cardboard. The smaller boxes/bags use one 12x12 sheet, the larger gift bag uses 2 12x12 sheets glued together. In my opinion, everything turned out very nicely!
